Louise Hay transformed the world for millions. The founder of Hay House Media, she was also the author of several books. Her work with people diagnosed with AIDS, through gatherings lovingly called Hayrides, was transformational. She lived for 90 remarkable years and contributed immensely during her lifetime. Below are some of our favorite quotes, collected from her speeches, books, and various appearances. Each one has tremendous depth and the power to change how we see our lives. There is value and love in her words. Let us explore them together.

Louise Hay Quotes

Louise Hay Quotes - Lifeism

This was the foundation of Louise Hay’s teachings. She deeply believed that our thoughts affect our future and that we are the creators of our own lives. We can make changes. However, we often struggle to guide our thoughts, stay in the present, and stop dwelling on the past.

“The thoughts we choose to think are the tools we use to paint the canvas of our lives.”

We all have patterns in our lives. Unless we zoom out and look at them, we can keep living in circles without even realizing it.

When we live out negative patterns, we leave ourselves little room to build healthier ones that serve us. Changing the way we think can help us create a more mindful future.

Louise Hay Quotes on Love Being a Miracle Cure - Lifeism

Louise Hay’s work centered on healing our bodies as well as our relationships. Early in her life, she realized that many of our problems begin with our inability to accept ourselves. But self-love can feel ambiguous. What does it mean to love ourselves? Where do we begin?

We begin by understanding the nuances of self-love.

Developing a deep sense of self builds our faith in ourselves and in the world around us. And that is a wonderful place to begin healing.

Louise Hay Quote on self criticism - Lifeism

We can criticize ourselves so much and so often that it becomes a way of life. But if we learn to rely on ourselves in the darkest times, we may find that eternal sunshine in the depth of winter.

We each have our own path towards self-love, with our own burdens to shed. Taking the time to develop positive self-talk is a big step in the right direction.

Louise Hay Quote I am in the right pace at the right time - Lifeism

This quote is beautiful. We picked it because it speaks to something many of us struggle with. We can come to believe that the world is a bad place. We ask for proof before we trust. We start to feel that the world is out to get us.

Much of this comes from our life experiences. We’ve been hurt, burned, and let down too many times to believe that anything good exists at all. We are not asking you to abandon caution. We are asking you to consider a gentler view of life. As we mentioned earlier, our thoughts influence how we move through the world. If we constantly expect something bad to happen, we can enter situations already looking for proof that we were right. So, notice that thought when it appears. Pause, question it, and leave a little room for something better.

There are many beautiful quotes by Louise Hay. Her books, voice, and meditations have offered comfort to countless people. There are so many to choose from, and these are just a few of our favorites.

Louise Hay Quote on doing the mental work - Lifeism

Louise Hay believed that if we are willing to work towards healing our minds, we can begin to heal many parts of our lives. Some may have thought she believed in magic, but she placed her faith in the power of our thoughts and our commitment. Her message asked us to face our reality, even when it was uncomfortable, and take responsibility for our mental and emotional well-being.

And Louise Hay lived by those ideas. She credited her recovery from cancer to the practices she taught, and she helped many others find hope while living with serious illnesses. To her, that capacity for change was nothing short of a miracle. And she believed that everyone could take part in it, no matter who they were.

Louise Hay Quote on Life Long Learning - Lifeism

We love this quote because it shows Hay’s commitment to learning. Not just learning about the world and what is out there, but also about what is within. We are all deeply complex and wonderful human beings. Our souls are rich with the potential to heal and love. Going within and learning more about ourselves can help us greatly in our lives. Take a few quiet minutes to ask yourself what you need today. You are your most valuable resource, and you deserve the time it takes to nurture yourself.

Louise Hay Quote on Acepting Others and Ourselves - Lifeism

We learned about self-love earlier in this post. But it is not only about loving and accepting yourself. It is also about accepting others as they are. Trying to change someone else usually ends in frustration and chaos. We have to learn to accept people and let go of the constant need to improve them or turn them into who we want them to be. Whether they are our parents, spouses, siblings, or children, we cannot control who they become. Letting go of the need to control someone else’s behavior can do a great deal to reduce your stress and anxiety.

Lousie Hay Quote on Transcending Circumstances - Lifeism

We would like to leave you with this quote. We know life can be really, really hard. Things can seem to go from bad to worse. We lose family, friends, loved ones, colleagues, homes, businesses, and time. But know this: no matter where you are or who you are, you have made it this far. Take the next small step. You will get through this. We are right by your side, cheering you on.

You got this.

About Louise Hay

Helen Vera Lunney, better known as Louise Hay, was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1926. She was abused at an early age, and the trauma stayed with her through her teens. She became pregnant while young and gave her child up for adoption soon after. These experiences caused grief and trauma in her early life.

She later started modeling in New York City, where she met her husband, Andrew Hay. She spent several happy years with him. However, after 14 years of marriage, he left her for another woman. She was shattered. During this tumultuous period, she began studying at the Science of Mind Church. A few years later, she wrote The Little Blue Book, now popularly known as “Heal Your Body”.

Soon after beginning her journey into forgiveness, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer and chose not to undergo conventional medical treatment. Hay said she healed her dis-ease using the ideas in her book, "Heal Your Body", including forgiveness, positive thinking, and affirmations. In 1985, she started a support group for people living with AIDS. What began with six men in her living room working with forgiveness grew into a national movement. She was invited to speak about her work on Oprah and was also interviewed in The New Yorker Magazine. These two appearances brought her and her work to a much wider audience. The rest, as they say, is history.

Her book, "Heal Your Body", went on to sell 35 million copies. It was translated into several languages, and the exposure on Oprah helped make it a New York Times bestseller. After her success, she founded both Hay House Media and The Hay Foundation, a charitable organization. Over the years, she continued to write books, conduct seminars, and publish other new-age authors through Hay House Media. She mentored and collaborated with many well-known healers and authors, including Dr. Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson, Esther Hicks (Abraham), and Anthony William.

Louise Hay passed away in 2017 at the age of 90. She died peacefully in her sleep after touching millions of lives. A truly remarkable soul, she transformed difficult experiences from her own life into lessons from which many could learn. Both her company and her charitable trust continue to flourish.

Louise Hay continues to be an inspiration for us, an enigma who changed the world for good.
