Who we are
Lifeism (lifeism.co) is an independent online publication about self, wellbeing, spirituality and the small practices that make a life feel meaningful. In this policy, "Lifeism", "we" and "us" mean the team that runs lifeism.co. You can reach us through the contact page.
What we collect
Usage data. We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read and how they move around the site. It records things like the pages you visit, how long you stay, your device and browser type, and your approximate location at city level. Google Analytics does not give us your name or email address.
Contact form messages. If you write to us through the contact page, we receive the name, email address and message you send. We use them to reply to you.
Newsletter sign-ups. If you join our newsletter, we keep your email address so we can send it to you. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
We do not ask for sensitive information, and we never sell your data.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. We use three kinds:
- Essential. One cookie remembers your choice on our cookie banner, so we do not ask you again on every page.
- Analytics. Google Analytics sets cookies (such as _ga) to tell new visits from returning ones.
- Advertising. We plan to show ads through Google AdSense to keep the site free to read. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and measure those ads.
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, these cookies stay off until you accept. Everywhere else they are on by default, and you can turn them off from the same banner. To change your choice later, use the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page, or clear cookies in your browser.
Advertising and Google AdSense
Lifeism uses, or will use, Google AdSense to show ads. Here is what that means for you:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, lets Google and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings: adssettings.google.com
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices (or www.youronlinechoices.eu in Europe).
If you opt out, you will still see ads. They will be based on the page you are reading rather than your browsing history.
Our ad partners. Today that is Google AdSense only. You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. If we add another ad network, we will name it here and link to its opt-out page.
Embedded content
Some articles include images, videos or posts from other sites, such as YouTube or Instagram. Those sites may set their own cookies when you view them, under their own privacy policies.
Who else sees your data
We share data only with the services that run the site:
- Webflow hosts the site and stores contact form messages.
- Google provides Analytics and AdSense.
These services process data on our behalf. Some of them store it outside your country, including in the United States.
How long we keep it
Google Analytics keeps usage data for 14 months. We keep contact form messages for as long as we need to answer them, and no longer than two years. Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. If you are in the EEA or the UK, the GDPR also gives you the right to object to processing, to restrict it, to take your data elsewhere, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Where we rely on your consent, such as for advertising cookies, you can withdraw it at any time.
If you live in California, you can ask what personal information we collect and ask us to delete it. We do not sell personal information for money. Turning off advertising cookies on our banner also stops the sharing of browsing data for personalised ads.
To use any of these rights, write to us through the contact page. We will reply within 30 days.
Children
Lifeism is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us their details, tell us and we will delete them.
Changes
When we update this policy, we change the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site.
